Geschmacklich ein ausgezeichneter Tee. Harmonisch abgestimmt. Für den preis, den man für einen Tee bezahlt, erwartet man eine nette Verpackung, anstelle einer lieblosen zipper Verpackung vom Versender. Mich persönlich würde es freuen, wenn eine Beschreibung oder eine nette Aufmachung dabei wäre.

Cultivation and Processing

The name “Yashiki” (屋敷) means “estate” in English and refers both to the exceptional quality and the location of the tea field. The very small tea field, situated at an elevation of 25 meters above sea level, is located in a flat area ideal for Gyokuro, right next to Grand Master Yamashita’s home in the premier Kyotanabe region of Uji. This allows Yamashita to monitor the tea field daily and carefully tend to the tea plants. His traditional Japanese home serves as both a workshop and living quarters. The leaves are touched only by gentle hands, from tending during growth, hand-picking, and hand-rolling (Temomi, Japanese 手揉み) to gentle drying with fine Bincho-tan charcoal for one hour after harvest. Only the finest, long, and undamaged needles are used. The temperature difference between day and night is significant, which enhances the quality of the tea. Only organic plant-based fertilizers are used. The master’s machines are very old, exceptionally well-maintained, and made of wood and bamboo instead of plastic. We have not found a comparable tea factory anywhere in Japan. Only a few kilograms of this Gyokuro are produced each year, and we feel very honored to be able to offer one of the best green teas in the world.
