Temi Plantation

The Temi Plantation is located in southern Sikkim near Namchi and Ravangla and is considered the state’s most famous tea garden. Its history dates back to 1969. Temi was founded on the initiative of the then ruler of Sikkim and was the state’s only tea garden for a long time.

The plantation covers approximately 177 hectares. The tea fields are situated at altitudes ranging from about 1,200 to 1,800 meters. Average annual production is around 100,000 kilograms of tea.

The plantation’s historical development also includes its later transition to organic farming. The transition began in 2005, and Temi was later certified as an organic plantation. This makes Temi one of Sikkim’s most important historical and economic tea gardens.

Due to its location in the Himalayan hills, its special role as one of Sikkim’s earliest tea plantations, and its long history under state management, Temi is still regarded today as a plantation rich in tradition and of historical significance.
