Barnesbeg Plantation

The Barnesbeg Plantation is located in the Darjeeling area in the Lebong Valley region, about 15 to 17 kilometers from Darjeeling. It is one of the region’s most historic tea gardens and was founded in 1877. The name Barnesbeg comes from the founder, Christine Barnes, and literally means “Barnes’ Garden.”

The plantation is situated at elevations ranging from approximately 300 to 1,260 meters. The total area covers about 288 hectares, of which approximately 130 hectares are planted with tea. Various figures are publicly cited for annual production. It typically ranges from about 100,000 to 170,000 kilograms of tea per year.

Part of the plantation’s history is its development into a well-known Darjeeling garden with a distinct profile. Barnesbeg is now managed by Goodricke. The plantation has been certified organic since April 2010, making it one of the region’s organically farmed tea gardens.

Thanks to its long history, its location in the Lebong Valley, and its significance within the Darjeeling growing region, Barnesbeg is still regarded today as a plantation rich in tradition and historical interest.
