Namring Plantation

The Namring Plantation is located in the eastern part of the Darjeeling district and is one of the oldest and largest tea gardens in the region. Its history dates back to 1855. Namring is considered one of the most traditional Darjeeling plantations and is divided into several sections, including Namring, Poomong, and Jinglam.

The total area covers approximately 450 to 475 hectares. The plantation extends to elevations of about 1,700 meters. A large portion of the land is self-irrigated, which supports the tea gardens’ water supply. Annual production is around 300,000 kilograms of tea. To achieve this, the factory processes approximately 1,200 tons of fresh green leaves each year.

The plantation’s history also includes its early development within Darjeeling tea cultivation. Namring is one of the region’s well-known historic gardens and has long had its own infrastructure, including a factory, cable car, power plant, and social facilities for the workers’ families living there. The name Namring is associated with a Lepcha priest.

Due to its long history, its size, and its location in the Darjeeling hills, Namring is still considered a historically significant and traditional plantation today.
