Risheehat Plantation

The Risheehat Plantation, also known as Risheehat or Rishihat, is located about 14 kilometers from Darjeeling and is one of the region’s most historic tea gardens. It was founded in the 19th century by British planters and was formerly known as Tsering Bagan. The current name, Risheehat, is understood to mean “home of holy sages.”

The tea fields are situated at an elevation of approximately 760 to 1,460 meters. The area planted with tea covers about 256.45 hectares, of which roughly 20 hectares are irrigated. The average annual production exceeds 180,000 kilograms of tea.

The plantation’s history also includes its subsequent transfer to Jay Shree Tea in 1955. Before 1963, Liza Hill was still an independent tea garden with its own factory; later, this area was incorporated into Risheehat. Today, the plantation is one of Darjeeling’s well-known organically managed gardens.

Thanks to its long history, steep slopes, and significance within the Darjeeling growing region, Risheehat is still regarded today as a plantation rich in tradition and historical interest.
