Runglee Rungliot Estate

The Runglee Rungliot plantation is located in the Takdah area of the Darjeeling district and is one of the region’s most famous and historic tea gardens. Its history dates back to the early 1860s. The name Runglee Rungliot is associated with the phrase “this far and no further” and is linked to a traditional tale about a Buddhist monk who is said to have found the perfect tea here.

The plantation extends across elevations ranging from approximately 980 to 1,970 meters. The total area is about 417.60 hectares, of which approximately 183.72 hectares are planted with tea. Annual production is reported to be between 190,000 and 225,000 kilograms of tea, depending on the source.

Runglee Rungliot was long one of the well-known Darjeeling gardens owned by the Duncans and was later continued under new management. To this day, the plantation is considered one of the most influential historic tea gardens in the Takdah area.

Due to its long history, its location in the eastern Darjeeling hills, and its strong connection to the region’s tea culture, Runglee Rungliot is regarded as a historically significant and traditional plantation.
