Pussimbing Plantation

The Pussimbing Plantation is located in Darjeeling, about 6 kilometers from Ghoom, on the slopes of Tiger Hill. It is one of the region’s well-known tea gardens and is now part of the Chamong Group. Its founding or expansion by British planters is dated to 1911.

The cultivation areas are situated at an altitude of approximately 1,500 to 2,200 meters. The total area is often reported as around 400 hectares, of which about 201 hectares are planted with tea. Annual production ranges from approximately 80,000 to 90,000 kilograms of tea, depending on the source.

The plantation’s history also includes the transition to organic farming. Pussimbing has been operated as an organic plantation since 1994 and is considered one of the older organically managed tea gardens in Darjeeling. Descriptions of the name’s origin also mention that Pussimbing is associated with water sources and mountain streams.

The location on steep slopes and the plantation’s long history continue to shape the area to this day. Pussimbing is therefore regarded as a plantation rich in tradition and historical interest within Darjeeling.
